Lauren names Manchester United legend as best-ever opponent over Robben and Ronaldo

Arsenal legend Lauren says Ryan Giggs is the best-ever opponent he faced throughout his career.

Lauren, who featured on The Italian Football podcast, believes the threat posed by Giggs on the left wing was more dangerous than the likes of Arjen Robben and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The retired defender was part of Arsenal’s Invincible side and he came up against some fascinating attacking players in his time, especially against United in multiple title races.

Lauren said: “I always say Ryan Giggs. He was an extraordinary player. Above every player who played on my side. Above Robben, Duff, Cristiano Ronaldo, above everyone.

“He was a fantastic player. He made you improve your game, challenge your own tactics to stop him.

“Always driving the ball, so intelligent, he had everything. So I always say one of the best games I ever played for Arsenal was when we won the double against him at Old Trafford.”

Having won 34 trophies throughout his career as a one-club man, few get close to Giggs when it comes to being the most decorated player in English football history.

Making his first team debut at 17, Giggs quickly drew comparisons with United legend George Best, partly because of his ability to dribble past opponents at ease.
