Lazio president Claudio Lotito has suggested the Serie A club are the on verge of withdrawing from the race to sign Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United are trying to sell Greenwood and Ligue 1 outfit Marseille are making advances to try secure his signature.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a successful loan spell with Getafe last season, scoring 10 goals in 36 matches – but it remains to be seen how much United will get in terms of a transfer fee.
Marseille are now the favourites to sign Greenwood this season.
“The deal to sign Mason Greenwood was close last year but then it collapsed at the final stages,” Lotito said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano.
“Now I’ve one more name on the list, I can’t share the name but he’s 10x times better than Greenwood.”

By those comments, we can only assume that Lazio have accepted that they won’t be signing Greenwood.
It will come as a boost for Marseille because it means less competition.
Sooner Greenwood is sold the better
United need to sell players in order to make signings this summer.
If we want a new centre-back and forward on top of other signings, we need to get rid of players like Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood.
Greenwood has no future at United, so there is no reason for this saga to drag on much longer.
Hopefully, Marseille put their money where their mouth is.
