Barcelona were linked to a move with none other than Lionel Messi as early as the summer of 2023 when the legendary Argentine finished his time at Paris Saint-Germain after two years in the French capital.

He was adamant about not renewing his contract with PSG, and was ready to embark on a new (possibly old) chapter in his career. And while Barcelona did their best to convince him, including publicly talking about it, the move failed to transpire.

Inter Miami and Al-Hilal were the last of the two sides in the race for Leo’s signature, and eventually, the incredible offer from the former was enough to win over his preference.

The eyeballs on the MLS have multiplied by a few hundreds since then, with Inter Miami setting their ticket prices at a sky-high value, too.

Messi’s arrival in the United States has also got a lot of other American celebrities talking, including superstars from other sports, who have come to attend Miami games, including one of the all-time great athletes LeBron James.

Speaking in an interview recently, LeBron talked about the transfer as quoted by AS, saying, “Seeing the GOAT of soccer, Lionel Messi, grace the MLS with his greatness is a game-changer for us.”

“His arrival not only elevates the league, but also inspires a new generation of soccer fans in our country,” the Los Angeles Lakers megastar added.

He went on to talk about Messi’s legacy and career, commenting on his talent, too.

“It takes an unparalleled level of dedication, work ethic, and talent to achieve what Messi has, and I have nothing but respect and admiration for him. I’m wishing all the best to him.”

Messi already guided Miami to their first ever trophy in their history, winning the Leagues Cup against Nashville on penalties. He had ten goals and an assist during this seven-game run.

He also then assisted two goals against Cincinnati in the US Open Cup final, with Miami eventually winning that trophy on penalties as well.
