Leeds United are reportedly monitoring Celtic star Matt O’Riley ahead of the summer transfer window and could make an official move should they secure promotion to the Premier League.

Daniel Farke’s men will take on Southampton in the Championship Play-Off final on Sunday at Wembley and should they get promoted, the Yorkshire club will need to strengthen their squad.

Matt O’Riley has emerged as a target for Leeds ahead of the 2024/25 season but the 23-year-old is also wanted by Newcastle and Leicester City, reports The Chronicle.

The Tyneside club have had scouts watch the Danish star and are in the strongest position to sign the midfielder given their current status in the Premier League. This summer is a big one for Eddie Howe’s team and should they sign O’Riley, he will likely be one of several players to arrive at St James’ Park.

As for Leeds, the Celtic star would be a great addition to their squad but they need to get promoted first if they are to have a chance to sign the 23-year-old.

Matt O’Riley has been in top form for Celtic this season

It is not hard to see why clubs are interested in O’Riley as the 23-year-old is having a great season at Celtic. Ahead of the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, the Denmark international has featured in 48 games for the Hoops during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring 19 goals and assisting a further 18.

The clash with Rangers at Hampden Park may be the midfielder’s last with Celtic as it remains to be seen who makes an official move for the player this summer.
