Leny Yoro’s failure puts Real Madrid in trouble

Real Madrid is a model of anticipation when it comes to the transfer market. And it has proven this for several seasons now by planning recruits well in advance. In this sense, for several months, the club led by the tireless Florentino Perez had targeted the gaps in central defense. With the serious injury of Eder Militao and the relapses of David Alaba, Carlo Ancelotti had had to deal with Aurélien Tchouameni in the center of defense for several games of the season. And this summer, with the departure of Nacho to Saudi Arabia and Al-Qadsiah, it was necessary to strengthen.

The Merengues had ticked off one name: Leny Yoro. The young 18-year-old defender was the Madrid club’s top priority in defense. And despite competition from PSG, the player seemed to give his preference to the Spanish club, which had made an offer of around 20 million to buy out his final year of contract. But then, at the last minute, Manchester United swept the board by arriving and offering more than 60 million euros. An XXL offer that pushed Lille to favor a transfer to the Premier League. And this failure for Real Madrid is a very big blunder.

Real Madrid no longer wants to sign anyone

In addition to losing one of the greatest potentials in this position in current football, Carlo Ancelotti’s team also misses the opportunity to considerably strengthen its defense. According to information from ASwith Alaba’s return expected in November, Real Madrid only has two central defenders in its squad (Militao and Rüdiger). And even if Vallejo makes up the numbers, the club is not counting on him and no longer plans to recruit in this position. Leny Yoro was the only desire of the club in this position which considered that he was affordable since there was only one year left on his contract (hence the offer of only 20 million). Unless there is an unexpected good deal, Real Madrid will not take any more action.

Internally, the staff quickly discussed this Yoro failure and Carlo Ancelotti estimated that he would, if necessary, still use the Tchouameni option in defense. Problem, with the departure of Toni Kroos who will not be replaced, Real Madrid is also very limited in midfield. The Madrid daily explains that the management, although serene, is torn between several options, especially since the agents, who targeted Real Madrid’s lack in this position, do not hesitate to propose names to the club (Laporte, Diogo Leite). The current trend is clearly towards a flat calm on the transfer market because the club thinks that Alaba, Militao and Rudiger will do the job this season. Risky when you know the physical fragility of the first two. But the case of Kepa last year, arrived at the last minute after Courtois’ injury, shows that Real Madrid reserves the right to take action if there is really an emergency. First element of response on August 16 against Atalanta.
