Leny Yoro has had nothing short of a nightmare start to life at Manchester United.

In what fans will hope is not a sign of what’s to come this season, the new signing sustained a lengthy injury setback in just his second outing for the club – a pre-season defeat to Arsenal in California.

The same game saw Rasmus Hojlund also taken victim with unfortunate luck, as he was forced off with a hamstring complaint which will see him sidelined for around six weeks.

As for Yoro, he’ll be made to wait three months before he’s able to make his official club debut, with a mooted return date expected around mid-October.

Erik ten Hag will have to make do without the highly-rated teenage prospect in fixtures such as Manchester City in the Community Shield final, Liverpool (H), Tottenham Hotspur (H) and Aston Villa (A).

Yoro’s message to the United faithful

United revealed his prognosis last Thursday before further reports confirmed yesterday that Yoro had undergone successful surgery on the metatarsal fracture, and he has since addressed the matter himself.

“This is not the start I wanted, but that’s football,” Yoro began. “The operation went well. Thank you for your many messages of support.

“Now, time for patience and rehabilitation work. See you soon, stronger.”
