It has not been a typical season for Robert Lewandowski as the Barcelona veteran striker has performed well below the standards he sets for himself.

The 35-year-old has shown signs of form in recent games, but has blown hot and cold for large parts of the campaign.

It has even given way to speculations about the former Bayern Munich superstar’s future, with Saudi Arabian clubs still retaining an interest in him.

However, Lewandowski, who has a contract with Barcelona until 2026, intends to see it through.

Lewandowski happy, wants to stay

Speaking in an interview with SPORT, the Poland captain made it clear that he and his family were happy and settled in Barcelona and are not thinking about a move.

“I feel very good in the city, my family too, we are very happy and content. I could just be happy with my things at the club, but everyone else is happy too,” he said.

In fact, Lewandowski went on to state that one of the objectives he has set for himself is to play at the new Spotify Camp Nou, which will be open again in November this year after renovations.

“Yes, of course, it’s one of my objectives, to play at Camp Nou again. It’s a magical stadium, a magical pitch, and yes, of course, I want to play there,” he said, essentially ruling out a summer departure.

“We still have to wait ten months, I think. I hope to be there almost at the end of the year and to be able to play with all the people and the great atmosphere,” he added.

Lewandowski also gave his two cents on Xavi’s decision to step down as Barcelona manager at the end of the season. The Pole agreed that the pressure at the club, be it on a player or manager, is the highest, saying:

“Being a coach or a player at Barcelona is a lot of pressure, it’s normal, and the club is in a more difficult moment than before, with a squad with very young players. And the expectations are always very high and big.”

On Xavi’s departure, he added: “I understand what all this means for him: he’s a Barça player, he was a player and now he’s a coach. From an emotional point of view, it’s very difficult and I understand him perfectly. Not only him, but also his family.”

As such, Lewandowski called on his teammates to focus on the remainder of the season and ensure that they win something with Xavi.

“We need to focus on this season because we can still win with Xavi, not just games. I’m focused on it one hundred percent and prefer not to talk about what will happen at the end of the season, the priority is now,” he concluded.
