WWE featured a newsworthy show for their NXT brand on January 21. The show included a Heritage Cup match, and those matches usually deliver. Charley Dempsey was on a quest to regain the NXT Heritage Cup, but Lexis King wasn’t going to let it go without a fight.

Lexis King is coming off a big win after he clinched the Heritage Cup at New Year’s Evil. Of course, the second generation Superstar’s journey in NXT is far from over.

This match came to fans at the end of the show’s first hour this week. They hyped things with a video package before the commercial break, and then Lexis King and Charley Dempsey got down to business when they came back.

The No Quarter Catch Crew was in full force as they supported Charlie Dempsey during this match. This match was contested under Heritage Cup rules as well. This was the fourth time that the two would clash for the championship.

This contest went through the first three-minute round of six, but neither competitor could pull off a pinfall or submission. During the commercial break, Lexis King picked up a pinfall in the second round. Then Charley Dempsey picked up a pinfall in the third round.

Lexis King debated on whether he should use the brass knuckles he had with him between rounds, and then they continued into round 4. With just a few seconds left in the round, King hit a low blow and nailed his finisher to win the match and retain the Heritage Cup.

We will have to see what is next for Lexis King in NXT. He is certainly flirting with a full-fledged heel turn. In the meantime, he will remain Heritage Cup Champion.

What’s your take on Lexis King’s time in WWE so far? Will he live up to Brian Pillman’s legacy? Let us know what you think in the comments section!
