A former governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido, has slammed the Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISIEC) over the price it fixed for nomination forms for the upcoming local government elections in the state.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain asserted that no opposition party would be able to afford the fees set by JISIEC.

Naija News reports that Lamido made this statement in response to the announced prices for the forms required for chairmanship and councillorship positions, which he shared on his official Facebook page.

Reports indicate that JISIEC has established the nomination form fees, which are set at five million Naira (₦5 million) for chairmanship and two million Naira (₦2 million) for councillorship.

He further remarked that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has effectively secured victory in the election even before it takes place, as the party has created conditions that discourage opposition participation in the forthcoming electoral process.

Lamido said: “The APC-controlled government of Jigawa State has WON all the Chairmanship seats of the 27 Local Governments and the 283 Councilorship seats in the YET to be conducted local government elections throughout the State.

“The reason being no opposition Party is able to pay the FIVE MILLION NAIRA for the Chairmanship and TWO MILLION NAIRA for the Councilorship nomination forms from the State electoral commission!

“While other states are engaged in protests over hunger and poverty, congratulations, Jigawa, for being the most prosperous State in Nigeria.”
