The Kaduna State Security Council has announced a restriction of movement throughout the state from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
This is to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the forthcoming local government election in the state.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, announced this in a statement on Friday, adding that the restriction was to ensure a peaceful and orderly council poll.
He said the elections, which would take place in 255 wards and 23 local government councils, are crucial for the state’s development, and the government was leaving no stone unturned to guarantee their success.
Aruwan said the restriction was necessary to prevent any potential security breaches.
“The restriction of movement is aimed at preventing any individual or group from disrupting the electoral process. We want to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully and without any incidents,” he explained
According to the commissioner, only persons performing essential duties will be exempt from the restriction, and they must provide proper identification and clearance.
He added that the restriction applied to vehicular movement as well as commercial and other related activities that might constitute impediments to law and order.
He noted that to ensure compliance with the restriction, security agencies have been deployed across the state.
“We have deployed adequate security personnel to enforce the restriction and maintain law and order. We urge citizens to cooperate with security agents and report any suspicious activities,” Aruwan said.
Aruwan urged citizens to refrain from actions that could disrupt public peace or affect the smooth conduct of the elections.
“We appeal to citizens to conduct themselves peacefully and avoid any actions that may be perceived as disruptive. Let’s work together to ensure a successful election.
“Let’s work together to ensure a peaceful and successful election. We must prioritize the interests of our state and our people.
“The Kaduna State Security Operations Room is reachable for reporting any observed acts that threaten law and order on 09034000060 or 08170189999,” Aruwan added.
