People who knew Liam Payne from his time as a member of One Direction are reacting to his tragic death. The “Teardrops” singer passed away at the age of 31 on Wednesday (September 16) while in Argentina. The preliminary cause of his death has been attribute to trauma that he suffered after falling from the balcony of his hotel room. As news of his passing spread, many people associated with the beloved boy band took to social media to pay tribute to Liam. The list includes family members of his bandmates – Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. Keep reading to find out more… Harry‘s mom Anne Twist shared a simple but heartbroken tribute on Instagram, where she shared a photo of the broken heart emoji and wrote, “Just a boy…” Niall‘s brother Greg Horan also posted to Instagram. “To say I’m heartbroken is an understatement a weird feeling this morning and all night you were a top young boy to a man a son a brother you are only one of 4 lads I was happy enough to take my place in nialls life as a brother you will be forever missed Liam words can’t describe how much I want to grab my brother and mind him now while the world shows their memories of you and him and the boys,” he wrote. “my heart goes out to your family parents and sisters and your son Bear and your 1D brothers.” He concluded, writing, “10th October we met and we started out that evening as 5 families into one big one 1D family thank you for all the laughs bro watch down on the all your family and mind them lots of love kiddo x x x 1D 4 LIFE x x x ❤️❤️❤️❤️” As you likely know, One Direction was founded on The X Factor. Simon Cowell, who launched the band on the competition show, has not yet issued a statement. However, he postponed auditions for Britain’s Got Talent. Other stars who came up on the reality show paid tribute to Liam on social media. The list includes the likes of Cher Lloyd and Rebecca Ferguson, who were on the same season of the show. “From being on the show together, visiting each others homes while filming, going on tour together and watching you achieve your dreams. I’ll cherish the memories made and the laughs we had. My thoughts are with your family and friends, with everyone who loves you. My heart is breaking for your Son Bear. Rest in peace Liam,” Cher wrote on Instagram. Rebecca took to X (formerly Twitter) and recalled meeting Liam on the way to their auditions. “I can’t help but think of that boy who was hopeful and looking forward to his bright future ahead. It he hadn’t jumped on that train and jumped in that taxi I believe he would be alive today,” she wrote, noting that many young stars “are devastated and reflective today as [stardom] has finally taken it’s [sic] first victim.” She concluded, writing, “Rest in Peace Liam, I hope you find peace on the other side and love to your mum and family x.” Musician Olly Murs also took to Instagram to share a tribute. He toured with One Direction at the start of their career. “This news is devastating, am lost for words 😣 we always had a good laugh when we saw each other, sometimes the catch ups were only short and sweet but when we did it was mostly about how annoyingly good his hair always looked, or our love for Becks, the old XF days and the tour we shared together,” he wrote alongside a photo of the singer. “Liam shared the same passions as me, the same dreams so to see his life now end so young hits hard, I’m truly gutted and devastated for his Family and of course his son Bear losing a dad x am thinking of them! RIP Liam.” One Direction vocal coach Helene Horlyck described Liam as “the loveliest young man who just loved to sing” in a tribute on Instagram. “I will always remember Liam as a polite young man who was caring and kind,” she wrote. Josh Devine, who worked with the band as a drummer, reacted to the “heartbreaking news” on his Instagram story. “I just pray for Liams [sic] family, and all that knew and loved him,” he wrote. Guitarist Dan Richards also took to his story, writing that the situation “feels so surreal.” “Thanks to everyone reaching out, still trying to wrap my head around it all. My thought’s go out to Liams [sic] family at this time,” he said. The band’s makeup artist, Lou Teasdale, shared a tribute on her Instagram story and spoke to the band and fandom. “i hope you’re all ok,” she wrote. Choreographer Paul Roberts also took to Instagram, writing, “Sweet, kind Liam Love is all I have…” Our thoughts go out to everyone who knew and loved Liam. RIP.
