Continuation of the 2nd day of La Liga this Sunday evening with a very nice poster with a scent of the Champions League. Indeed, Atlético de Madrid opened the doors of its stadium of Cívitas Metropolitano to the club of Girona. A game that was scrutinized by many because of the very solid summer transfer window of the Colchoneros and the new status to assume of the Blanquivermells. If the Catalan troops did not demerit themselves by obtaining some opportunities, it is the players of Diego Simeone who proved more efficient and realistic to win this meeting (3-0). Decisive passer last week, Antoine Griezmann opened his personal counter this evening by scoring the first goal (39th).
In the second half, the Colchoneros managed to double the lead in the wake of Marcos Llorente on an assist from Griezmann (48th) after the break. Coming into play, veteran Koko scored his goal to seal Madrid’s victory in stoppage time (90th + 4). Note that new recruits Robin Le Normand and Julián Álvarez were starters, while Conor Gallagher came into play. In the standings, Atlético de Madrid took three points and moved into 4th position, while Girona is 18th with just one point taken. Next week, the Colchoneros will play against Espanyol, while the Blanquivermells will host Osasuna, during the 3rd day of La Liga scheduled for midweek.
