The meeting between FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid will ultimately not be played on December 22 in Miami. The Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo informed on October 25 that the RFEF had received the match request from LaLiga. Javier Tebas, president of the Spanish league, continues to want to organize his matches in his country, in Europe as well as around the world. But according to football rules, an authorization process is necessary for championship matches outside the borders to take place correctly.
Article 11 of the regulations for international matches indicates that the RFEF must inform UEFA of this type of match. The governing body of European football will have to authorize the meeting between the two clubs. But it will only be able to do so once the Spanish Federation has also given its agreement. The confederation will then have until 21 days before the date of the match to approve the clash between the first and third in the LaLiga standings. With the deadline fast approaching (December 1), there are only 25 days left, according to Relevoso that the CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) gives its approval. The Americans will have to wait a little longer before being certain of welcoming the Iberian teams.
