For the late match counting for the 20th day of La Liga, Real Madrid traveled to Getafe this Thursday. Current runners-up to Girona, Carlo Ancelotti’s men had the opportunity to take back control of the Spanish championship in the event of victory over their neighbor. After ending a series of three games without a win against Granada, further consolidating its position in the first part of the ranking, the Azulones intended to play a bad trick on their opponents.

From the outset, Real Madrid set the opposing camp on fire and thought they would obtain a penalty following a shove by Carmona on Vinicius Jr in his own area. But the referee did not flinch and let the game continue (3rd). Still insistent in Getafe’s half, the Merengue club sent a first thrill into the spans of the Coliseum Alfonso Perez, Joselu taking a cross from Modric with first intention to find the crossbar of Soria (9th). If in the meantime, Soria pushed back the deadline, lying in wait for an attempt from Vinicius Jr (12th), the Madrid goalkeeper admitted defeat in front of Joselu. Rushing down his right side, Lucas Vazquez placed a cross on the head of number 14 from the White House who opened the scoring with a dive header (0-1, 14th). Thus, the Spaniard found the net again, a first in the championship since October 2023.

Led by Joselu, Real Madrid avoids the Getafe trap!

Despite some interesting sequences on the outskirts of the opposing zone, such as Joselu’s shot deflected for a corner by Soria (39th), Carlo Ancelotti’s protégés were content to circulate the leather to reach the locker room with a short advantage on the scoreboard. Despite seriousness and will, Getafe lacked the edge to hope to shake up Real Madrid during the first act (no shots). The only black spot on the board was the injury-related exit of Rüdiger at the break, replaced by Camavinga (46th). Driven by the desire to reverse the trend, José Bordalas’ men set off again. Very discreet during the first period, Greenwood distinguished himself with a low shot which bounced off Lunin’s left post (52nd). But after a slight gap, Real Madrid managed to accentuate their domination and relied on Joselu for a second time.

Ideally placed, the Spanish striker was at the conclusion of a magnificent piece of work from Vinicius Jr on the left to score a double and give Real Madrid some breathing space (0-2, 56th). Flying over the debates in the second half, Real Madrid increased their incursions into the opposing camp but Vinicius Jr came up against Soria twice (62nd, 69th). Finally, Milla tried to spark revolt on the Getafe side. However, success eluded the Spanish midfielder, defeated by Lunin (73rd). In the process, Greenwood in turn saw the frame slip away (79th). Shaken in the last quarter of an hour, Real Madrid nevertheless resisted until the end. As last September, Real Madrid once again emerged victorious in this Madrid derby and took the opportunity to regain their leadership position, two points ahead of Girona.
