It took less than 24 hours to witness a first “little surprise” in La Liga. 6th in the championship last year, Real Sociedad lost to Rayo Vallecano this Sunday, in Anoeta (1-2). Deprived of Martin Zubimendi at kick-off, who had been left on the bench by Alguacil while waiting for his future to become clearer, the Txuri-urdin finally collapsed in the second half.

De Frutos had opened the scoring after the hour mark (67th, 0-1) before Sergio Camello, the Bleuets’ executioner in the Olympic Games final (he scored twice in extra time), extinguished the Basques’ hopes (84th, 0-2). Zubimendi, who came on as a substitute, finally reduced the gap in added time (90+8th, 1-2), but it was not enough to hope to leave with a point from the draw.
