Last week, Athletic Club stopped Real Sociedad’s very good run of 12 games without losing. Today, it’s up to Valencia to end Bilbao’s series. The two teams faced each other for the 21st day of the Spanish championship. Without Oscar de Marcos (injured) and Iñaki Williams (CAN), the Basques were diminished. Ernesto Valverde’s team especially faced a solid Valencia team who, with their only shot on target, managed to open the scoring in this closed match (61st).

Hugo Duro, in good number 9, cuts Gaya’s cross with a header from close range. At home, Gabriel Paulista’s teammates then managed the end of the match to secure a fourth consecutive victory in the league. They reacted well after their elimination in the Copa del Rey this week and ended Bilbao’s series. The Bilbayans were on 14 matches without defeat. A series which took them to the top of the La Liga rankings. With this defeat, Athletic can see Barça and Atlético de Madrid return in their next match.
