New Ligue 1 broadcaster, DAZN, is reportedly negotiating a distribution agreement with Canal+, but apparently without a combined commercial offer.
It was about time. With one week to go until the start of the Ligue 1 season, which will begin with a match between Le Havre and PSG (Friday, August 16 at 8:45 p.m.), the DAZN system is finally being put in place. The Team
thus reveals the identity of several faces of the new broadcaster of the French championship, such as Smaïl Bouabdellah, Julien Brun, Ambre Godillon, Charlotte Lorgeré, Benoît Cheyrou and Rudi Garcia, while no doubt waiting for other key consultants.
Aware that it is starting from a long way off in its quest for new subscribers, especially since its prices – deemed excessive – were revealed, the British group is also reportedly negotiating various distribution agreements. Firstly with Internet service providers (ISPs). But DAZN has not obtained any guaranteed minimums from them, according to the daily, as these operators are only prepared to share the revenue from any future subscriptions.
Discussions with Canal+ “very well underway”
The “Netflix of sport” has also reportedly turned to Canal+, a major partner of beIN Sports but also the big loser in the TV rights tender. And according to
The Team, “the discussions are said to be well underway and should be successful.” Should we understand that Ligue 1 will be visible on the encrypted channel? No. DAZN could however be accessible via the MyCanal streaming platform,
“but not necessarily with a combined commercial offer”.
In other words, Canal+ subscribers will be able to find DAZN in their channel catalog, on the condition that they subscribe to one of the rates offered by the LFP’s new partner: either 14.99 euros per month for a single match per day (the one on Sunday at 5 p.m.), or 29.99 euros per month for eight matches (the ninth being broadcast on beIN Sports). Bad news for viewers, who should therefore not have a reduction.
