Barcelona legend and former defender Gerard Pique has never been one to shy away from social media.

From his playing days, the Spanish international has remained vocal and honest about his opinions on the internet, and the situation has not changed post-retirement.

After his retirement from professional football, the Catalan legend started a seven-a-side football league alongside notable internet streamers and football personalities called the Kings League.

While generally based on the same rules as a conventional football game, his league includes the use of secret weapons, unlimited substitutions and other rules that keep the sport engaging.

Ligue 1 takes a dig

On Friday, the official Ligue 1 X account took a dig towards the Barcelona legend by posting a photo of him struggling to keep pace with Kylian Mbappe in a previous UCL game. ‘And that’s how Pique’s Kings League was formed,’ they captioned it.

As is expected of him, Pique was not one to hold back. The defender hit back via the official Kings League account with a visual that depicted how he alone has won four times as many UCL titles as the entire French league.

While no longer a part of the professional football scene, it goes without saying that the Catalan defender will be backing Barcelona ahead of the critical quarterfinal against PSG in the UCL this season.

Pique backs La Masia

Amidst their financial crisis, Barcelona have been forced to dig deeper into their academy for resources only to discover that they have been sitting on a goldmine.

Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Fermin Lopez are the three big revelations this season, all of whom have been vital in the team’s recent games.

In fact, Pique himself urged Barcelona to trust La Masia more to cope with their economic situation in a recent interview.

“We are going to trust the people of La Masía, who are very good people and very talented. Let them work hard and we will try to compete to win La Liga with them.”

Yamal and Cubarsi have been called up by Luis de La Fuente to represent Spain in the upcoming international break.

Upon their return, they will face PSG over two legs and, needless to say, will be critical in deciding the result.
