In search of a buyer for Ligue 1 TV rights for the period 2024-2029, LFP president Vincent Labrune can count on the support of President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron.

And here we go again! The battle for TV rights to the French championship is resuming with a vengeance. Faced with the difficulty of finding a buyer for the period 2024-2028, the president of the LFP Vincent Labrune worked and he is not alone, because Emmanuel Macron also got involved.

Indeed, a government source would have confided in the team on this subject: “The president wants to be the VRP of French interests (…) He did not wait for the call for tenders to worry about French football. For several months, he has been available if he needs to contact this or that person. He also did it with the Qataris, saying all the importance we attach to it.”

Discussions with Bein Sports

The newspaper also indicates that negotiations between Labrune and the Bein Sports staff are increasing, in particular with the channel’s general director Yousef Al-Obaidy. The latter also defends the interests of PSG.

The Ile-de-France club requires a good level of rights on a national level for financial fair play. To afford all the matches, you will have to pay the trifle of around 900 million euros annually. Another solution is available to Bein Sports: take a few matches exclusively, and two as co-broadcasts. The future will tell us how the sharing will take place, while DAZN is also monitoring the negotiations…
