Lille falls to Liverpool

One of the series had to end. On the one hand Losc, amazing for four months, on a series of 21 matches without defeat. On the other Liverpool, the impressive leader of the Champions League, who has only known victory in C1.

Without huge surprise, it was the Reds who maintained their good series, beating the Mastiffs (2-1) at Anfield. Bruno Genesio's men, who beat Real Madrid and Atlético this season, were not unworthy. In a first period lacking in chances, the Mastiffs held on until Jonathan David lost the ball and this one-pass counter-attack where Curtis Jones sent the inevitable Mohamed Salah into orbit (1-0, 34th).

Lille can still dream

While Salah missed a 2-0 ball just before the break (44th), Lille made life complicated with the second yellow card received by Aïssa Mandi, synonymous with exclusion (59th). But when we least believed it, Losc managed to equalize, through Jonathan David (1-1, 62nd).

The scenario was reminiscent of that of the Metropolitano, when the Northerners overthrew Atlético in the second half. But the dream was short-lived because Lucas Chevalier, author of several decisive saves, was unable to do anything about Harvey Elliott's shot deflected by one of his defenders (2-1, 67th).

This setback, the first since September 17, is not catastrophic for Lille. With 13 points on the clock, Losc, in the event of a victory against Feyenoord in a week, still has a chance of finishing in the Top 8. Liverpool, for its part, consolidates its first place which would have been definitively assured if Barça did not had not achieved an unthinkable success on the pitch of Benfica (4-5).
