At the age of 36, Lionel Messi will experience a major event in a few weeks.
He left doubt about his future a year and a half ago, after his world title in Qatar, but Lionel Messi will have the opportunity to experience new consecration in the Argentina jersey. The eight-time Ballon d’Or was indeed selected by his coach Lionel Scaloni for the Copa America.
Scaloni has announced an expanded list of 29 players for the continental competition. His legendary number 10 is one of them. The Copa America will take place in the United States from June 20 to July 14. An ideal context for Messi, based in North America since the summer of 2023 and his signing at Inter Miami.
Messi, the last crusade
Unless the situation turns around due to a physical problem or a last minute withdrawal, Messi will therefore try to defend his title with Argentina. Argentina will face Canada (June 21), Chile (June 26) and Peru (June 30) during the group stage of this 2024 edition.
The most notable absence is that of Paulo Dybala. Stars Lautaro Martinez, Julian Alvarez, Emiliano Martinez, Alexis Mac Allister and veteran Angel Di Maria will participate well in the tournament. The latter announced his desire to withdraw from the selection after the tournament.
