Barcelona have all but secured qualification through to the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League thanks to a first-half blitzkrieg from Raphinha and Lamine Yamal.

Having come into their Round-of-16 second leg with a narrow one-goal advantage, Barça took a very early lead thanks to some brilliance from Lamine, who set Raphinha up to strike home.

The teenage sensation then went on to score a golazo to reinstate Barça’s lead after Nicolas Otamendi had equalised before Raphinha made it 3-1 by capping off a blistering counter-attack.

With his twin strike in the first half against Benfica today, Raphinha has now become the leading goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League this season – going past Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy (10).

Moreover, Raphinha has now also become the Brazilian with the most goals scored in a single Champions League campaign with 11 in ten games this season – going past greats like Kaka, Neymar, Rivaldo, Mario Jardel and Roberto Firmino (all ten).

The brace also meant that Raphinha has now equalled the goal tally of legendary Brazil striker Ronaldo Nazario for Barcelona (48).

Not only that, but the 28-year-old has now equalled Ronaldinho’s 14 goals in the Champions League for Barcelona, doing so in 22 games – 13 less than the Brazilian legend (35 games).

On top of that, Raphinha (16 G/A) has now become the Barcelona player to have the second-highest direct goal contributions in a single season in the Champions League, only behind Lionel Messi (19 G/A in 2011/12).

The Ballon d’Or calls are certainly being earned by the Barcelona skipper.
