The summer transfer window was an interesting time for Marc Guehi as Newcastle United tried their upmost to secure the player’s signature from Crystal Palace.
Although the Magpies kept coming back with incrementally higher bids, the Eagles held firm and, eventually, managed to keep hold of their captain for at least another transfer window.
Eddie Howe’s desire to land the player is therefore obvious, though it’s believed that Liverpool are potentially considering making a move for the England international, perhaps as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.
Marc Guehi set to make big decision
With Oliver Glasner at the helm, Palace will hope that more exciting times – such as those at the back end of last season – are ahead, despite their poor showing in their opening three games of the 2024/25 campaign.
So far, Palace have lost to Brentford and West Ham, and drawn with Chelsea, and no wins see them stuck down in 16th position at present.
Crystal Palace want to tie Marc Guehi down to a new contract. It’s still early days of course, and the South Londoners will be hoping for brighter times ahead.
That includes keeping hold of Guehi as Football Insider note that the club will shortly open talks with him to extend his contract.

Depending on what he decides will author the next stage of his career.
Sign on with Palace and suitors could still make a move for him but the Eagles won’t be done over in financial terms, and any new sale price – if there is one – is likely to again prove to be prohibitive.
Should Guehi decide not to sign another deal for his present employers, then that would let both Newcastle and Liverpool in during the January transfer window to try and get themselves a bargain, notwithstanding his current deal would still have 18 months to run (transfermarkt).
