Liverpool fans have rediscovered footage of Bill Shankly leaving the club which has similar comparisons to Jurgen Klopp's decision.

It has left many supporters devastated due to the impact he has had at Anfield during his time there.

And a clip has resurfaced on social media of another Liverpool legend's departure in Shankly, who managed the Reds from 1959 to 1974.

After making the decision to retire in 1974, it left Liverpool fans torn up after an incredible 25 years in charge.

Fans were left in disbelief after being told of the news in the street.

One said: "You're having me on."

And another replied that he felt "terrible" after being asked how he felt.

"Has he?" Another said on the streets. "Bit of a shock to me."

Shankly is one of Liverpool's biggest legends after leading the club from the second division to European powerhouses.

He won three league titles during his time in charge and one UEFA Cup, as well as two FA Cups.

His impact paved the way for unprecedented success in the European Cup, which the Reds went on win four times in 1978, 1979, 1981 and 1984.

And now Klopp has made the decision to leave Liverpool with this season set to be his last.

The German is a fan favourite at Anfield, where he has won every trophy including the Premier League and Champions League.
