Liverpool must begin planning for the departure of one of their most important players.

Mo Salah is in the final year of his contract at Anfield and, according to recent reports, will leave Merseyside at the end of the season.

Linked heavily with a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia’s Pro League, Salah, 32, has been rumoured to be the Middle East’s next big-name signing.

After Liverpool’s recent 3-0 win over Manchester United, the 32-year-old admitted this season could be his last.

“I was coming to the game, I was saying, ‘look, it could be the last time’,” the forward told Sky Sports.

Mo Salah in action for Liverpool.

“Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts so I was just like, ‘OK, I play my last season and see at the end of the season’.

“I feel I am free to play football – we will see what happens next year.”

And despite suggestions the winger is angling for a new contract, Spanish outlet Fichajes believes the end of the season will signal the end of the Egyptian’s time in the Premier League.

Enjoying a fantastic seven years with the club, the 32-year-old will go down in the club’s history books as one of the greatest players to ever pull on an all-red shirt.

Failure to reach an agreement over a contract extension will see the number 11 leave for free next summer though.

Despite being one of the best in class, Liverpool’s CEO of Football Michael Edwards will struggle to replace Salah. The African’s influence and contributions are unrivalled with his 214 goals in 352 games largely responsible for the Reds’ last seven major trophies including the 2019 Champions League and 2020 Premier League.
