Liverpool have reportedly been dealt a major injury blow with the news that midfielder Harvey Elliott will likely be out until late October with a fractured foot.

The talented 21-year-old has endured a frustrating start to the season as it looks like he’s not necessarily going to be a regular starter under new Reds manager Arne Slot.

And now to make things worse, Elliott most likely won’t be available for the next month and a half or so, according to the Times as they report on the full extent of a previous niggle being made clear.

Elliott is a versatile and skilful player, but he’s perhaps not quite lived up to expectations at Anfield just yet, so this would have been an important season for him to establish himself and to start to show more consistency.

The Times add, however, that Curtis Jones should be available again soon for Liverpool, so that’s one positive for the Merseyside giants, who generally look to have a decent amount of squad depth for this campaign.

It’s a blow for Elliott to miss this much game time, but LFC should cope fine, and fans will just have to hope that the England Under-21 international can make an impact once he comes back at the end of next month.

Liverpool have started brightly under Slot, who replaced the legendary Jurgen Klopp in the summer, joining from Eredivisie giants Feyenoord.

The Dutch tactician has won all three of Liverpool’s opening three Premier League games, including a hugely impressive 3-0 win away to rivals Manchester United just before the international break.

Liverpool are at home to Nottingham Forest this Saturday and will hope to be picking up another three points to lay a real marker and show that they’re serious contenders for the title this term.
