Outgoing Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has joked he would be happy to celebrate more titles if Manchester City were found guilty of breaking FFP rules.
Klopp said an emotional farewell to Liverpool at the end of the season, after almost ten years in charge of the Reds. The German has enjoyed great success at Anfield but has only won one Premier League title, losing by a single point to Manchester City in 2019 and again in 2022. Manchester City have won the championship in six of the for the past seven years, but is currently under surveillance after being charged with 115 alleged breaches of Premier League regulations.
Manchester City’s hearing is due to begin in autumn 2024, leading to speculation over potential sanctions if the club is found guilty. There are claims that Pep Guardiola’s side could face a hefty fine, points deductions or even relegation from the Premier League. The question was put to Klopp during a tribute evening for ‘Danke Jurgen’ at the M&S Bank Arena, which was attended by more than 11,000 supporters.
Klopp tackles Manchester City
During a question and answer session with Mr Klopp, comedian John Bishop asked the following question : “You leave this club having won the Premier League once. There could be a court ruling that means you’ve won the Premier League three times…” But he was interrupted by the former Liverpool manager who joked: “If you organize a bus parade, I’m in!” I don’t care how long it takes.”
Manchester City are the first team in the history of the English Premier League to win the title in four consecutive seasons, having finished two points clear of Arsenal in 2023-24.
