Liverpool have been closely tracking the progress of Palmeiras teenager Luis Guilherme, reportedly the most keen of a string of big European clubs that have been monitoring the midfielder.

The 18-year-old has already established himself in the Palmeiras midfield, making 19 appearances in the Brazilian Serie A last year and turning out in the Copa Libertadores as well.

He has also started to gain international experience, playing five times for Brazil’s Under-20 side, after scoring three goals in just four appearances for the Under-16s.

A move to Europe looks inevitable and The Daily Mail report that Liverpool are at the front of the queue to sign him when he does leave Palmeiras.

While still only described as a ‘watching brief’ their interest in the youngster is said to be firmer than any other side in Europe that is looking to snap him up.

While Guilherme has not scored a senior goal for Palmeiras as yet, he was prolific in the youth ranks.

Joao Paulo Sampaio, Palmeiras’ youth director, said: ‘We played in a tournament in Japan and Luis scored over 40 goals.

‘The Japanese players were scared of him. But Luis doesn’t get carried away. He knows the potential he has. He’s a very special player.’

The same Daily Mail report states that the Reds are also scouting Moroccan teenager Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, who impressed at the Under-17 World Cup last year where his country reached the quarter-finals.

The 17-year-old plays for the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Morocco.
