Liverpool have made contact with Juventus over a deal to sign long-term Manchester United and Chelsea target Federico Chiesa, according to reports.

The Reds are one of the only clubs in Europe who are yet to make any summer signings and, with the transfer window shutting at the end of the week, time is running out for Arne Slot to strengthen the squad he inherited from Jurgen Klopp.

Liverpool’s lack of business shows Slot is content with the current strength of his squad and that was on show in their opening two games of the new season, with Brentford and Ipswich Town both suffering defeats at the hands of the Merseyside club.

But Liverpool are exploring a couple of deals in the final week of the summer window and are set to bring Giorgi Mamardashvili to Anfield in a £30m deal from Valencia.

The Reds may also bolster Slot’s attacking options as they have made an approach to sign Italy international Chiesa, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chiesa has made over 100 appearances since joining Juventus in 2022 but his agent suggested earlier in the summer that he was set for a summer switch.

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with Chiesa at various times over the past five years and now Liverpool are showing interest in the 26-year-old.

It is claimed Liverpool made contact with Juventus on Monday and could secure a deal as the Serie A club are open to selling, while Chiesa is said to be keen on a move to the Premier League.

A few years ago Chiesa was rated as one of the best and most exciting forwards in Europe and he starred in Italy’s European Championship win in 2021.

While his stock has fallen lately Chiesa could still be an invaluable addition to a Liverpool attack that already boasts the likes of Mohamed Salah, Diogo Jota, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz.

Last month Chiesa’s agent said Manchester United, Chelsea and West Ham were all ‘following’ his client and suggested he would be leaving Juventus before the summer transfer window closed.

‘He is an outgoing player,’ he said. ‘The technical plans have changed and evidently the new coach does not see him among the primary players.

‘That said, if he continues to ask for a salary higher than €6m… I know that West Ham, Manchester United and Chelsea were following him.’

Following back-to-back wins over Ipswich and Brentford, Slot’s Liverpool will face their greatest test so far this weekend when they travel to Old Trafford to face fierce rivals United.
