Liverpool are off to a perfect start this season with three wins in three games.
Arne Slot’s tenure at the club has started impressively, with the Reds in second position in the league just behind Manchester City.
They signed two players over the summer transfer window; goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili and winger Federico Chiesa.
However, with the same squad, Slot has made them playing brilliant football so far this season, without even conceding a goal.
According to Football Insider, in the January transfer window, Liverpool have decided to sign a new defensive midfielder.
The Merseyside club wanted to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi this summer but his move failed in the last minute and he opted to stay at his boyhood club.
Slot has realised that there is a need to sign a new number 6 at the club and he is determined to explore players in that position in the January transfer window.
Luis Diaz of Liverpool celebrates scoring his team’s first goal during the Premier League match between Manchester United FC and Liverpool FC at Old Trafford on September 01, 2024 in Manchester, England.

This season, Ryan Gravenberch has played in that position and he has been hugely impressive with his performances, particularly how he played against Manchester United and won the midfield battle against the likes of Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo.
Slot has shown that he can instantly improve the level of his players, with the Liverpool team looking a completely different outfit to how they ended last season.
Liverpool are expected to make more signings in January
With the club not fully backing him in the transfer market this summer, they have decided to do that in the January window and the Dutch manager has identified the midfield position as the key area he wants to address.
It remains to be seen if Liverpool will revisit the option of signing Zubimendi in January but their pursuit of the Euro 2024 winner showed that Slot is an admirer of the player.
Perhaps in January if Real Sociedad are struggling and Liverpool are still flying high, that could convince the player to make the move.
Only time will tell the decision Liverpool and Slot take on their midfield addition but even with the current players available at his disposal, the early signs are looking good.
