Liverpool are the only Premier League team not to make a new signing this summer.
The Reds have appointed manager Arne Slot after the departure of Jurgen Klopp, which remains their only arrival at Anfield this summer.
They have lost experienced players in Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Adrian but none of them have been replaced with new players.
Slot has started working with the players and he is impressed with the quality that the Reds have currently at the club.
The Liverpool boss has once again made it clear that it is not easy to sign new players and they will only go ahead with a signing if they can improve the quality of their squad.
Slot stated that Richard Hughes is working hard on bringing the best players to Anfield and he is constantly in touch with the sporting director.
The Liverpool boss said, as quoted by the Daily Mail:
‘I notice that you are focused a lot on new signings! I am focused on the tour, how we played, what we need to improve and what we did well. Like I said, the bar is really high for new signings because we have so many good players.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is hoping to make some new signings.
‘It is not so easy to first find a player to meet those standards and then ask, “Is he available?” Then we have to find an agreement with them, so it is not always easy to find a player who can help us but Richard is working hard on it and let’s see what comes from this.
‘If he (Hughes) is not here we are on the phone many times but like I said, my main focus was working with the team and preparing them in the best possible way for the first Premier League game. Apart from that he is working on things and he keeps me updated every time.’
The Reds have been linked with Anthony Gordon of Newcastle United but nothing is advanced about that potential transfer.
There is a general belief that a new centre-back is needed at Anfield to partner Virgil Van Dijk and that is one position that the Reds could explore.
Liverpool cannot waste any more time to do transfer business
Liverpool’s midfield is flooded with options but they lack a presence like Fabinho, someone who can play in that role and offer a similar quality.
The Reds have to do something soon about their transfer business as the Premier League season is just under two weeks away.
All their Premier League rivals have strengthened their squad and the fans are waiting for new arrivals despite the club beating Manchester United and Arsenal in their preseason matches.
