Things were always going to change at Liverpool once Arne Slot took over from Jurgen Klopp. They had to.

Life is likely to be difficult enough for the Dutchman being the first in the door after the German departed, so it’s important that he’s allowed to put his own stamp on the club.

Slot will be judged on results as well as by how well his team perform.

The compulsory decision that Arne Slot has made at Liverpool

Reds fans have grown up on a certain style at Anfield and whilst any new managerial incumbents will almost certainly be given time to settle into the dugout, the Liverpool way is non-negotiable.

Something else that is non-negotiable is Slot’s decision to make sure the entire team have breakfast together each day, per The Times (subscription required).

It would appear to be a series of subtle changes designed to bring the team together and happens before the various meetings take place ahead of training.

Arne Slot will hope to be as successful as Jurgen Klopp was at Liverpool.

There don’t appear to be any dissenting voices at present, with the players themselves perhaps keen to understand how all of the new elements fit together in the bigger picture.

The report also suggests that the squad are happy with Slot’s attention to technical details, and that’s likely to win him time with his playing staff.

If a manager isn’t respected for the way in which he wants to implement his style of play, he’ll be off to the worst start imaginable and it’ll be downhill all the way thereafter.

Just ask David Moyes after he took over from Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United.

It’s the Red Devils that provide Liverpool’s third opponents of the 2024/25 Premier League season, with Ipswich Town and Brentford coming ahead of that trip to Old Trafford.

How quickly fans will get to see Slot’s influence on and off the pitch will only be known once the new campaign is well underway. Until then, the jury will remain out.
