Liverpool have not made any signings in the transfer window this summer.

The Red have seen all their rivals strengthen their squad in the transfer market and they are now the only remaining Premier League club yet to make their move.

They have been linked with a number of players this summer including England international duo Anthony Gordon and Marc Guehi.

However, they have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of the latter, as the Crystal Palace defender’s price tag is too expensive for them, according to Football Insider.

The Merseyside club wants to sign a new defender this summer and they are looking at someone who could partner captain Virgil Van Dijk at the club.

They are particularly looking for a left-sided centre-back and they have been long term admirers of Guehi, who was one of England’s best performers at the Euro 2024 this summer.

Football Insider have previously revealed that Palace are asking for £50million for Guehi, and some add-ons on top of that.

Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United have all been interested in signing the talented centre-back.

Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is too expensive for Liverpool.

Newcastle United have the edge over others in signing the defender as they have made the first move to bring Guehi to St James’ Park.

Eddie Howe needs a solid centre-back and Guehi is someone he is targeting to improve the quality of his squad.

Liverpool should look for cheaper defensive options

With the defender proving to be too expensive for the Reds, they may have to turn their attention towards other cheaper options.

The Palace centre-back would have been perfect for the Reds though and his partnership with Van Dijk would have made their defense the most solid in the league.

Guehi’s performances for Palace and England have not gone unnoticed and it is only a matter of time when a big club comes in for him.

The former Chelsea man is a reliable centre-back and he showed that last season as well as at the Euros this summer.
