Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold has entered the final year of his contract at the club and his future remains uncertain.

The right-back has been one of the club’s top performers this season, helping the Merseyside club to jump to second position.

Under the leadership of new manager Arne Slot, Alexander-Arnold has helped the club keep four clean sheets in five Premier League matches this season.

However, with his contract situation still not resolved, his future is still undecided and Liverpool have made a mess of this situation.

According to football pundit Chris Sutton, the Reds star has had his head turned and he can now explore options before making a decision about his future.

While speaking on the Monday Night Club show, Sutton has claimed that the player is in a brilliant position right now and he can judge the ambitions of the team under the new manager before making a decision on his future.

He said:

“I can’t believe that he’s actually in this position where his contract is running down as it is. That’s my gut feeling.

“From his perspective, he is in a brilliant position, I suppose, new manager coming in, Arne Slot, he can work under him and judge whether he’s really enjoying it, how the team is progressing, and make a decision off the back of that.

“But he must have had his head turned somewhere. But I suppose a lot depends on how he sees Liverpool performing this season, and whether they’re going to be major challengers again.”

The player is not in any rush to make a decision on his future and he is waiting to see if the club can match his ambition and challenge for trophies in the future.

After the departure of Jurgen Klopp from the club, the Reds have entered a transitional period under Slot and there are still question marks over their competitiveness moving forward.

Real Madrid are waiting in the wings to sign Liverpool star

Despite making a good start this season, it remains to be seen if the squad can manage to compete on all fronts, just like they did under Klopp.

Alexander-Arnold is attracting interest from Real Madrid and they will be ready to move in for him should Liverpool mess up his contract situation.

The chance to play for the La Liga giants is difficult to reject, as seen with the arrival of Jude Bellingham last summer and Kylian Mbappe this summer at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The ball is now in Liverpool’s court and they have to convince their star player that they can still challenge for the biggest titles.
