The amount that Liverpool will have to pay if they choose to activate Sporting manager Ruben Amorim’s release clause this summer has been disclosed by David Ornstein.
Several options are being considered to replace Jurgen Klopp, and one of them is Ruben Amorim.
Although Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso is the frontrunner for the Liverpool job but the Reds are also keeping their options open in case the Spaniard decides to stay with the German club or move to Bayern Munich.
Next month, Amorim will have spent four years at Sporting. In his debut season, he took home a league title. His team could win the league again this season as they are two points off top place, with a game in hand.
David Ornstein stated on The Athletic Football Podcast that it would now cost more than £8.5 million to activate the 39-year-old’s release clause.
“Ruben Amorim’s got a release clause in his contract. It was, I think a year ago when Chelsea spoke to him, up into the €20 millions. Now I understand it’s €10 million, which people might feel is low, especially if it was a player signing. But that is high for a managerial appointment, whether we like it or not,” he said.
The job the Reds have ahead of them in trying to replace Klopp is enormous. Thus, they must do so if it means shelling out a sizable sum for whoever they think would be the best to move them forward.
The fans have made up their mind and they want Anfield favourite Alonso to come back to the club but things could take a different turn.
Another manager being linked with replacing Klopp at Liverpool is Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi. The young Italian manager is being eyed by Manchester United as well, who might decide to let Erik ten Hag leave at the end of the season.
