Liverpool will ruin Elon Musk!

Speculation about Musk’s interest in Liverpool emerged after comments from his father, who hinted at the South African-born billionaire’s intentions to acquire the Premier League giants. However, no formal approach has been made by Musk to John Henry’s Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool’s American owners. Additionally, it was reported that FSG, which sold a minority stake to Dynasty Equity in 2023, would focus on strategic investments rather than selling the club outright.

Speaking to Slingo, Dr Rob Wilson, a football finance expert, dropped a bombshell that Musk may have to fork out almost £8-8.5 billion to completely take over Liverpool.

The value of LFC is currently around £4-4.5 billion. “A little far behind its rival Manchester United”, he declared. “ A reinvigorated LFC, with new investment, playing success, new sponsors and a more profitable staff base (including players) could see the club progress towards a value in excess of £5 billion in the short term. Much like United, a valuation of $10 billion in the US for the club, or £8-8.5 billion in the UK, would not be out of the question if everything lines up as it should and they capitalize on new opportunities and trophy successes“.

While Musk’s financial might could transform the club, fans have been urged to approach the rumors with caution. Concerns focus on Musk’s unconventional leadership style, which has drawn criticism in his management of other companies, including Tesla and X, which could potentially impact the club’s ethics and stability.

An indecent price for Liverpool?

“While fans continue to beg owners to spend more, the harsh reality is that this is not feasible in a PSR world”Wilson said.

“Liverpool are a financially well-run club and there is no reason to jeopardize that for the sake of appeasing fans who don’t care about a team’s economics.

“Successful companies, like Tesla, SpaceX and X, exist because they adhere to smart business principles and do not descend into financial instability. His interest could also scare off other potential investors, such is his financial prowess and it is unlikely that the club’s valuation will increase much as the reasonable option would be to withdraw from any run, rather than get caught up in a war auction. »

Under manager Arne Slot, the team will face Tottenham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals on Wednesday, followed by an FA Cup third round match against Accrington Stanley.
