Bixente Lizarazu, who is commentating on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games for France Info, discusses his friend Zinédine Zidane’s torch relay during the glorious opening ceremony last Friday.
After commentating on Euro 2024 in Germany for TF1 with Grégoire Margotton, Bixente Lizarazu continued with the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The 1998 world champion has a daily column on France Info where he can give his thoughts on the Paris Olympiad. A big fan of all sports, the former left-back absolutely enjoyed himself during the first few days, with the flamboyant victories in particular of the Blues in rugby 7s and Léon Marchand in swimming.
“Liza” also had the pleasure of seeing Zinédine Zidane, her lifelong friend (since his debut with the Girondins de Bordeaux to be precise), be one of the stars of the opening ceremony last Friday. “Zizou” was the second torchbearer, in a sequence recorded with Jamel Debbouze. He left the Stade de France but was stuck in a metro… At the end of an evening that has become legendary, the 98 Ballon d’Or winner reappeared at the Trocadéro to hand the torch to Rafael Nadal, who then took it to the Louvre by boat, for a sumptuous finale.

Lizarazu was aware of Zidane’s appearance in the clip at the start of the ceremony and then in front of the Eiffel Tower. “I had spent the evening with him before, so I knew a little bit about it. But I found it obviously magnificent, the

“And the whole evening was very moving, I was very touched by what happened during the whole evening. It was very long, there was rain, but I found that the rain had finally brought something Dantesque to the evening. Everything was well thought out, at all levels, even on the musical choices, we had heavy metal! No, I loved it!”concluded Bixente Lizarazu regarding the opening ceremony.
