According to a report by Sports Zone, Paris Saint-Germain have reached a salary agreement with Ademola Lookman.

However, PSG are yet to be fully convinced of finalising a deal for the 26-year-old Atalanta forward, as the French champions are expected to explore all their options before committing to the Lookman transfer.

On the other hand, Lookman is keen to join PSG and will try and sign for the club over concrete interest from Saudi Arabia. Al-Ahli wanted the Nigeria international to form a new attacking triumvirate with Riyad Mahrez and their other transfer target, Brentford’s Ivan Toney.

Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini says he is unsure of Ademola Lookman’s future at the Serie A side after the player reportedly asked to leave for Paris Saint-Germain.

The Nigeria international did not take part in their Monday’s 2024/25 Serie A opening game against Lecce, having been left out of their squad on transfer reasons.

Atalanta and their fans hit the panic button after rumour emerged on Sunday that the French giants had contacted the Nigerian’s entourage and asked about his availability, with Football Italia reporting that Lookman asked not to be called up for the Lecce game.

According to several Italian outlets, the French giants are willing to double the Nigerian’s current salary and make him one of the continent’s top earners.

PSG were forced into the market after Portuguese forward Gonçalo Ramos suffered an injury against Le Havre on Friday, which could rule him out for three months.

While Atalanta are yet to issue any official statement about the possible departure of their star player, head coach Gasperini said he wasn’t sure if the Nigerian would be with the club at the end of the transfer window.

Commenting on the situation of Lookman and Teun Koopmeiners, who have also been linked with a move away from the club, Gasperini was quoted as saying by Tuttosport, “I have been given the right guarantees.

“Nobody expected this situation, which is why I am currently sailing by sight. I don’t know what will happen, but my job is to assemble as much as possible together with the club.

“It is clear that we will actually have the definition of the squad on August 31.

“We have an undoubtedly solid team structure, from defence to midfield, with players who have been at Atalanta for years, guaranteeing a quality of play that is always competitive.”

Since joining Atalanta for €9.35m plus bonuses from RB Leipzig in 2022, Lookman has been consistently spectacular for the Black and Blues, weighing in with 32 goals and 18 assists in 79 competitive appearances.

Lookman etched his name in the history books after he became the sixth player to score a hat-trick in a European final—a feat first achieved by Jupp Heynckes for Borussia Monchengladbach in the 1975 Uefa Cup. Lookman scored all three goals in the Italian side’s win over Bayer Leverkusen in Dublin.
