Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha believes that signing Ivan Toney may be a “trap.”
Toney has scored for his team after returning from his betting suspension at Brentford, but he has also stated that he wants to leave for a better club at the end of the season.
Speaking to Betfred, Saha said that his former side should not fall into the trap of chasing high-profile players and instead concentrate on what the squad actually needs. It will probably require a significant bid to secure a player who is also desired by Arsenal and Chelsea.
“Manchester United don’t need to fall into the trap of pursuing a player just because their rivals are. You need to sign players that are right for you and that’s it,” he said.
Saha appreciated Toney and praised his quality. He still feels Toney could be a good signing for United if they can manage to sign him for the right price.
He added: “Ivan is a great striker, he’s proven in the Premier League and he’s got a lot of quality. He’s not played a lot of football recently, so he needs to rediscover his form and I’m sure that it won’t take him long to do so.
“He could be a good signing for Manchester United if they can get him for the right price, but they need to understand his motivation, his dream and shouldn’t just join the race to sign him because their rivals are interested in him. That’s not the point.”
