A Louisiana woman has been arrested and charged with using the credit cards of Adan Manzano, the 27-year-old Telemundo sports reporter found dead in a New Orleans area hotel room Wednesday.
According to the Kenner (Lousiana) Police Department, the woman, identified as Danette Colbert, was arrested after allegedly using Manzano’s credit card at several stores in New Orleans. Additionally, according to police, security video from Manzano’s hotel shows Colbert and Manzano entering his room early in the morning of February 5, and Colbert leaving alone shortly after.
A Kenner P.D. press release indicates that Colbert has an arrest record that includes two allegations of drugging men, theft of currency, fraudulent use of credit and debit cards, and other financial crimes. Police also found Manzano’s cell phone in a search of Colbert’s home in Slidell, Lousiana.
Kenner police chief Keith A. Conley said during a press conference today, streamed live on Facebook, that the charges against Colbert could be upgrading pending the results of Manzano’s autopsy.
Manzano, a sports broadcaster at Telemundo 39 in Kansas City, had been covering the Super Bowl in New Orleans, sharing content from his trip to Louisiana on his social media accounts and posting his reports from the scene.
“Adan was an exceptional professional and a rising star whose dedication and talent reflected excellence in his work,” the news station said in a statement. “We will deeply miss Adan, his passion for sports and the contributions he made to the local community.”
Manzano leaves behind a toddler daughter. Manzano’s wife – the girl’s mother – was killed in a car crash last year.
