A new twist has emerged as Ayuba Wabba, the former president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), revealed during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today that the national chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has been incriminated in a police report.
Wabba made this assertion amidst the escalating crisis within the Labour Party (LP) as members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) staged a protest at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja.
He disclosed during the interview that the report implicating Abure was handed to him even before he concluded his tenure in office.
According to Wabba, Abure has been evading prosecution by hiding from the police.
He stated, “The police have conducted a thorough investigation. He (Abure) has been indicted. There is a comprehensive report, and it was forwarded to me even before I left office. We have urged the police to take legal action against him. We know he has been evading the police.”
“The fundamental fact is that fraudulent activities have been uncovered within the Labour Party. The police have conducted an extensive investigation. He has been implicated. The report was transmitted to me, and I passed it on to my successor,” Wabba added.
“There has been a delay because the report is in the hands of the police. The authority to prosecute lies with the police. I believe the process is ongoing. I’ve heard about allegations of the police attempting to politicize the matter, but the reality is that a committee was constituted, and the findings have been established. We are allowing the police to carry out their duties,” he concluded.
