A Labour Party (LP) member of the House of Representatives, Thaddeus Attah, representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State, has sparked a heated debate on social media after being photographed wearing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s signature cap.
Attah rose to prominence during the 2023 general elections, which saw many LP candidates benefit from the popularity of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Obi, who finished third in the presidential election, defeated Tinubu in Lagos State—considered the president’s political stronghold. Attah was among the federal lawmakers elected on the same day as the presidential and parliamentary elections.

Over the weekend, Attah posted a picture of himself wearing Tinubu’s signature cap, inscribed with: “The task of good governance has begun.”
The image triggered mixed reactions online on Monday after it went viral, with many questioning his motives.
On X (formerly Twitter), a user, @Sen_Adedotun, stated: “Politics is about personal interest. Don’t be surprised if he defects to APC before 2027.”
Others, like @abbeygovernor1, took a more pragmatic view: “It’s called politics—no permanent enemies, just shared interests.”
Despite the speculation, Attah has not publicly declared any intention to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
When contacted by our reporter, a lady who answered Attah’s phone dismissed the rumours.
The lady, who refused to identify herself, stated: “He is not planning to defect. He is a Nigerian citizen under Tinubu’s presidency. The cap is not exclusive to APC members. Hon. Attah remains 100% in the Labour Party.”
This incident comes in the wake of the defection of Ezenwa Onyewuchi (Imo East), a Labour Party senator, to the APC. Onyewuchi’s defection was officially announced in July when Senate President Godswill Akpabio read his letter on the Senate floor.
