Heading into the summer transfer window, FC Barcelona have made PSG prodigy Xavi Simons one of their top targets.

The 21-year-old Dutch ace is currently on loan at RB Leipzig where he has excelled. Set to return to PSG in the summer, Simons will not stay in Paris next season.

A number of clubs are lining up to sign him, including Barcelona, who might have an edge due to the player’s preference.

Luis Enrique does not address Simons’ future

Amidst the growing speculations, PSG manager Luis Enrique was quizzed about Xavi Simons and where his future might lie next season.

The former Barcelona boss, though, refused to get drawn into the chatter, as he insisted that he does not speak about players who are not in his squad at the moment.

“I make it a rule not to talk about players who are not at the club right now. He’s out, he’s a loan player. I maintain my position,” said Luis Enrique, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona pushing for Simons

Earlier in the week, it was suggested that PSG would rather sell Simons directly than loan him out again and were even in talks with RB Leipzig over a permanent transfer.

However, since then, things have seemingly changed, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Friday that Les Parisiens do not want to sell, making a loan exit the most likely option, which gives Barcelona an edge.

It is because Xavi Simons is believed to have a say in his loan destination, and if he pushes, the 21-year-old may very well end up back in the Catalan capital, almost five years after leaving La Masia.
