Barcelona were handed one of the toughest draws in the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal stage as they take on Paris Saint-Germain.

The game will also mark the return of former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, who is currently leading this PSG side.

Enrique recently seemed upbeat about returning to Barcelona, even adding that Barcelona will prove to be a difficult opponent.

Juan Carlos Unzue on PSG clash

In the midst of Enrique’s comments and hype around this fixture, Juan Carlos Unzue, Enrique’s former assistant coach at Barcelona, has recently commented on Barcelona’s quarterfinal draw in the UCL.

Unzue admitted he was hoping for Barcelona to face a weaker team in the quarterfinal stage, even though the Catalans have historically had a good record against PSG.

“When I saw that Barça got PSG in the draw, I thought that maybe they could have gotten a weaker team. Although there are no easy teams in the quarter-finals,” he said (h/t Diario SPORT).

Unzue spent three years in Barcelona, serving as the assistant coach of Enrique. He helped Barcelona notably secure a treble in 2015.

Unzue was on the Barça sidelines when the Blaugrana famously made the ‘6-1’ comeback against PSG during the 2016/17 campaign.

But Unzue admitted a lot has changed in the last seven years, with PSG now consolidating itself as one of Europe’s strongest teams. Barça, on the other hand, have made the last eight stages of UCL for the first time in four years.

That is why Unzue was not particularly happy with the draw. However, the Spaniard revealed, “Remember that my son is part of Luis Enrique’s staff at PSG, so I will be happy whatever happens.”

Barcelona are slated to take on PSG at Parc des Princes on April 9, while the second leg will be played at Estadi Montjuic on April 16.
