Manchester United target Manuel Ugarte is one of three Paris Saint-Germain players who have been left out of training matches by head coach Luis Enrique, according to reports in France.
Erik ten Hag is keen for United to recruit a new central midfielder before the end of the summer transfer window and Ugarte has been identified as a top target.
However, United have been unable to reach an agreement with PSG this summer as the French club had initially held out for a €70 million (£58.9m) transfer fee.
Ugarte is also said to have made it clear to PSG that he wants to join United and has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League side.
The Uruguay international was signed by PSG from Portuguese side Sporting CP last year in a deal worth €60m (£51.1m).
The 23-year-old started 27 games in all competitions last season but was left on the bench by Luis Enrique for both legs of PSG’s Champions League semi final against Borussia Dortmund.
According to L’Equipe’s Loic Tanzi, Ugarte’s future now appears to be away from PSG as Luis Enrique has been overlooking the midfielder during recent training sessions.
Danilo and Nordi Madueke have also been deemed surplus to requirements by PSG’s head coach.
Last week, reports claimed that United’s move for Ugarte had stalled as they were unwilling to meet PSG’s valuation, which had dropped to €60m (£51.4m).
It’s understood that United are now considering cheaper alternatives to Ugarte, including Burnley midfielder Sander Berge.
United are also expected to imminently announce the signings of Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich.
Both De Ligt and Mazraoui travelled to Manchester on Monday in order to finalise their moves to Old Trafford.
United have agreed an initial €45m (£38.5m) fee with Bayern for De Ligt which includes a further €5m (£4.2m) in add-ons. Their deal for Mazraoui is worth €20m (£17.1m).
Elsewhere on Tuesday, Aaron Wan-Bissaka completed his £15m move from United to West Ham.
