Olympique Lyonnais, in the midst of winter restructuring, could record a third significant departure after that of Gift Orban to Hoffenheim and that of Anthony Lopes to Nantes. Maxence Caqueret should leave Lyon
According to information from Foot Mercato, Maxence Caqueret, a pure product of the Lyon team, is in advanced discussions with Crystal Palace. The English club, owned by John Textor, is ready to offer the midfielder a five-year contract. An offer estimated at nearly 20 million euros is even in preparation, a breath of fresh air for the finances of the Rhone club.
Pierre Sage wants to see another Lyon.
Caqueret, linked to Lyon until 2025, is going through a complicated season. With only 14 appearances in all competitions (including 8 starts), he no longer seems to fit into Pierre Sage’s plans. The latter even dismissed him after the defeat against Besiktas in the Europa League, judging his performances insufficient. A thigh injury, suffered during the Coupe de France match against Feignies-Aulnoye, worsened his situation, preventing him from finding a place in the eleven.
An opportunity for all parties
Crystal Palace, which is counting on Caqueret to strengthen its midfield, could allow Lyon to continue its downsizing. With the departures of Anthony Lopes and Gift Orban already recorded, the transfer of Caqueret would further reduce the payroll, meeting the requirements of the DNCG.
