A stunning Olympique Lyonnais. Trailing until the 74th minute of play, OL finally won at the Montpellier pitch with a score of 2 goals to 1.

Arnaud Nordin opened the scoring in the first half, before Alexandre Lacazette responded late in the match to equalize and Maxence Caqueret delivered the coup de grace a few minutes later to send Les Gones to seventh heaven.

This success in the money-time allows the Lyonnais to continue but above all to seize 13th position in Ligue 1 with a total of 22 points. Les Gones are only 3 points from 10th place.

On the other hand, it was a big disappointment for Montpellier who were leading the score and who had the match in hand. This setback does not help the situation of the MHSC which continues its negative spiral in the championship.

Michel der Zakarian’s men have not tasted victory since December 17 on the pitch at FC Metz. With 20 points, Montpellier is 15th.

Lyon has courage, the MHSC can blame itself

Before the start of the match, both teams wanted to achieve a result and gain the upper hand over their opponent. At the end of a fairly balanced start to the match, it was the MHSC which stood out first and sent the first message.

Issiaga Sylla lights the fuse by sending a precise cross into the area on the head of Arnaud Nordin who takes over the Rhone defense (1-0, 23rd). An opening score which will give confidence to the Montpellier players who will overall master their subject.

Returning from the locker room, the two teams go blow for blow. But, the Montpellier residents will not materialize their clear chances like Akor Adams who had the break or even match point in the 54th minute of play. Found in front of the goal by Hefti, Adams saw his right foot flat being narrowly stopped by Anthony Lopes.

At the end of the match, the match changed. Alexandre Lacazette is served in the area on the left side by Nicolas Tagliafico and goes to finish with an angry left-footed shot on the ground which left no chance for Benjamin Lecompte (1-1.74th).

Excited, the Lyonnais will deliver the final blow to their opponents. Maxence Caqueret receives a ball on the edge of the area and sends a powerful shot with his left foot which he lodges in the MHSC cage with the help of the bar (2-1, 82nd). Lyon wins at the end and confirms its revival at the start of 2024.
