Chelsea struck hard (2-6) on the pitch at Wolverhampton, with an unusual hat-trick from Noni Madueke and a goal from the latest recruit Joao Felix.

Noni Madueke made an embarrassing blunder, but responded to it in flamboyant fashion. At midnight, fifteen hours before Chelsea’s match at Wolverhampton, the English winger mistakenly posted (according to his next post) on his Instagram account a message that was, to say the least, offensive to his upcoming opponent:

“Everything about this place is shit”adding the location “in Wolverhampton”.

The Wolves fans, of course, were waiting for him to make a big splash and booed him copiously at the start of the match. His response to the boos? A hat-trick! Madueke made a major contribution to the Blues’ crushing 2-6 victory on the Molineux pitch, scoring three clever and opportunistic goals (49th, 58th and 63rd), all after the break.

Before that, Chelsea had really struggled to take the lead and went into the dressing room with the score level (2-2), after having led twice thanks to a headed goal from Nicolas Jackson (3rd) and a sumptuous lob from Cole Palmer (45th). Palmer also played a key role in this drubbing finally inflicted on Mario Lemina’s teammates, signing three assists for the three goals from Noni Madueke.

Joao Felix already a scorer!

Once the gap had been widened, Chelsea fans were able, from their seats for those who did not travel to Molineux, to watch Joao Felix’s debut in his new colours. The Portuguese, who arrived in London during the week, immediately struck with a powerful shot and placed it in the top left corner on a pass from Neto (80th), the former Wolves player. If the rest of his performance was a little more messy and nonchalant thereafter, Joao Felix could hardly have dreamed of a better debut.

Chelsea, thanks to this impressive victory, bounce back well after the opening defeat at Stamford Bridge against Manchester City (0-2). And Noni Madueke can boast and keep the match ball, without worrying about having offended the sensibilities of the inhabitants of Wolverhampton…
