Dame Maggie Smith has died at 89, her sons, Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens, revealed in a statement on Friday, September 27.
Known for her iconic roles as Professor Minerva McGonagall in the Harry Potter series and Violet Crawley, the Dowager Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey, Smith leaves behind a remarkable legacy after eight decades in acting. Beyond her professional achievements, the London native, with her first husband, English actor Sir Robert Stephens, raised her two sons, Larkin and Stephens, who have pursued successful careers in film and television and started families of their own.
