John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the NDC for the 2024 has revealed the role Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang would play in his government if the party wins the general election in December.

Rallying women to support the candidature of Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, his running mate, the former President said Prof. Opoku-Agyemang would be in charge of the education, health, and gender and social protection sectors.

John Mahama made this known at a community engagement at Chiana in the Chiana – Paga Constituency in the Upper East Region, on day three of his campaign tour of the region on Monday.

At an earlier community engagement in Gbani in the Talensi Constituency, the former President told the gathering that women have occupied all but the two top offices of the land -President and Vice President – and should be given the opportunity to represent women interest at the highest level.

“Prof. Opoku-Agyemang won’t be a Vice President just because she is a woman. She is highly qualified in her own right and will make a good Vice President.

“She won’t be a driver’s mate, she’ll be my co-driver and we will once again steer Ghana on the path of progress,” he stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang, John Mahama said would be a worthy example to young girls to emulate.

According to him, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang has a proven track record as a performer during her time as Minister of Education and Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast.

During her time as minister between 2013 and 2016, the former President said her running mate led Ghana to top the West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination and flipped the student to text book ratio resulting in high pass rate in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations.,

The NDC, the former President said is a believer in the capabilities of women and would establish the Women Development Bank to empower them with soft loans to expand their enterprises so they would be able to support the dreams of their wards.

Having led the construction of roads, hospitals, provision of water, and expansion of electricity coverage, the former President said the NDC is a development oriented party which would enhance the social amenities of the Talensi area to make their lives better.

He announced a corporative mining scheme for the area which he said would ensure fairness in the allocation of mining concessions.

Mr Mahama charged the electorates not to be swayed by any form of financial inducements that would be thrown at them for votes but vote massively for the NDC in the December polls.

At a mini rally at Namon in the Bongo Constituency, the former President said a college of education would be established to offer students in the area who would want to pursue the teaching profession the opportunity to do so.

The campaign also took the former President to Navrongo and Chiana Paga Constituencies where he interacted with traditional and religious leaders, market women and youth groups
